"I’m not the silly romantic you think. I don’t want the heavens or the shooting stars. I don’t want gemstones or gold. I have those things already. I want…a steady hand. A kind soul. I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe. I want to love, and be loved.”-Shana Abe

One day, i'll fly away.

this summer has been very mellow--really; i have no summer school, no job, & no money. this has left ample time for me to explore the blog-o-sphere & read a plethora of {beautiful stories} & {swoon} over photos from all over the world.
--While most may regard this as a "fabulous way to spend time", i find myself getting down about my own adventures. don't get me wrong, i have encountered my fair share of fun adventures here in Kansas, & i {cherish} them immensely.
However, i long to go out & {explore} beyond these coordinates.
i've always been longing to return to Europe, & i have always planned to after school. but recently i have been {yearning} to even more so...
i am going to save & save & save my money, once i start getting some. {minor detail...} & i am going to plan a trip there perhaps over winter break. but really, i want to look into this amazing program i have really been wanting to do for a long while now.

so darlings, please think {good thoughts} for me-- & i shall do the same for you.

..because i believe we all deserve to be {truly happy}.

i do a lot of stupid stuff...

when it comes to boys.
or crushes in general. i am terrible at doing everything i'm supposed to do. in that, i, of course, am referencing my friends suggestions of playing hard to get. My grandmother's advice of waiting for the boy to call, he should be the one to call. Letting the boy decide where and when to go on dates, being patient & anticipating a boys interest.
no, i'm not good at any of that. in fact, i almost always tend to do the opposite. i've put myself out there, initiated the first few words exchanged, i've let it be known that i am indeed interested & even at times called & asked a boy out. {gasps.}

i'm not going to act like i haven't scared away a boy or two, but i'm also not going to act completely different than i would in one aspect of my life just to conform to how its "supposed to be."
fact: i am outgoing, & its rare for me to get embarassed.

i've been told often, by older members of my family that i may, in fact, intimidate boys-- perhaps even turn them away because they desire to have complete hold on the relationship reigns... at first i agreed, whole-heartedly, or so i thought. but then as i tried to refrain from calling boys i wanted to hang out with, i realized that i am not a "sit back and wait it out" kind of girl. not inferring that i am, in anyway, an in your face crazy fool. But when, in my life have i shyed away from talking to a stranger, or expressing my true emotions for something? if i liked a tv show, i owned every ounce of school supplies they sold with the characters stamped on it. in fourth grade i sewed "A's" to most of my shirts in lieu of my newly found favorite character, Laverne Defazio.

Moral of the story being, yes i do a lot of stupid shit when it comes to boys. i scare some away, some can't even manage to admit to a girl being funnier than they are. But i decided a while back that even though i don't necessarily conform to all the "dating norms" i surely will not pretend to be something i am not. because after the big vows were exchanged, there would be some big things to explain, i.e.: i really am outgoing-- & karaoke is a must at any wedding reception.

plus, any boy who can't keep up with me, {yet alone handle me}. is by no means the "man of my dreams".

"my man" better be ready to embark on the adventure of our lives with his outgoing wit of a girl.

in that...
i've seen he's just not that into you with two different friends of mine at two different times. & both times each of them, at one point during the movie has turned to me & exclaimed--
o my gosh, Anna, that's you!! in reaction to the character Gigi. at first i was a bit offended, but soon accepted the fact that she kinda, sorta, really is my twin. but this quote from the end of the movie makes me happy. & i may be exactly like Gigi, but at least i am in this way, too...

"Girls are taught a lot of stuff growing up. If a guy punches you he likes you. Never try to trim your own bangs and someday you will meet a wonderful guy and get your very own happy ending. Every movie we see, Every story we're told implores us to wait for it, the third act twist, the unexpected declaration of love, the exception to the rule. But sometimes we're so focused on finding our happy ending we don't learn how to read the signs. How to tell from the ones who want us and the ones who don't, the ones who will stay and the ones who will leave. And maybe a happy ending doesn't include a guy, maybe... it's you, on your own, picking up the pieces and starting over, freeing yourself up for something better in the future. Maybe the happy ending is... just... moving on. Or maybe the happy ending is this, knowing after all the unreturned phone calls, broken-hearts, through the blunders and misread signals, through all the pain and embarrassment you never gave up hope."-gigi.

"I may do a lot of stupid shit but I'm still a lot closer to love than you are."

{My Dad.}

[father's day circa 1995(?)]
is the smartest person i know. instilled in me the appreciation for the sciences & the gift of knowledge. (he read the encyclopedia growing up... for fun.) is a mix of genius scientist, st.francis, comedian, nintendo 64 enthusiast, walking book of knowledge, trickster, supporter, encourager, & best of all--
an amazing dad.
...i have memory upon memory of spending time with him which i will cherish my entire life & hopefully recount on paper to pass down to my family how cool my pops was.
i would take visiting his office on campus in between classes, going on a walk or a hunt for great bbq place, looking at the stars & asking question upon question about anything from God to whales... anyday of the week with my dad. he is simply incredible.

i love you pops.

{Happy Engagement!!}

One of my bestfriends/cousins Julie, the one who turned twenty-one last week...well she called me on Saturday with some absolutely happy & wonderful news!! Her boyfriend Garrett of approximately 5+ years popped the big question, & she said yes!!
I didn't get all the details seeing as how we had played phone tag the whole day & only had a few moments for her to tell me the big news-- plus she left for Florida on Sunday... Lucky girl!! But she is supposed to arrive home on Saturday & you better believe i'm going to get all the fun details!!
Its so crazy-- us growing up so much. Her sister Jenny getting married in April, now Julie planning to get hitched?! It seems like yesterday our Barbies were searching for the perfect dress for their "big day", now we are.
Julie & i used to always watch My Best Friend's Wedding together & Father of the Bride, & i distinctly remember going over details of our own "weddings". Hopefully some of our past choices have changed-- like me wanting blue bows down the entire back of my dress... don't even ask where i got such a "grand" idea.

So here's to Julie & Garrett;
& {dreams really coming true}.

oh & julie--...The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup-
I say a little prayer for you...

twenty + one.

Last night i went on an adventure to the Plaza in Kansas City in honor of my cousin/best friend Julie's twenty-first birthday!! & upon arriving, although a good 24min. late due to some unexpected direction glitches...
i sat down next to Julie at a huge table of all her friends. BUT then the dumbest thing happened.
The waiter approaches me & asks for my id. I explain to him that i am not, in fact, twenty-one, just shy by a year... but i was not going to drink. He then explains that i have to sit at a different table because they were serving alcohol at Julie's table. {Don't get me wrong--i understand they must do what the have to do...} BUT, it was 5pm. in a BAR & GRILL. Julie asked to speak with the manager & told him that she was never told of such a policy when having made the reservations... after the manager explained his {illogical} point, of "well some people will say they won't then they end up drinking from others..." I didn't mind sitting at the table 2 feet away from the main one, because we were in a private section; Plus Julie's sister, my good friend Jenny, and her hubby sat with me. I was not in the least bit mad about it, {although a bit offended that they admitted to not "trusting their customers"} i understand rules are rules but there one thing that made me completely befuddled:
-- When the waiter did bring the tray of alcohol he placed it at my seat, directly in front of me, {like where you put your plate!!}... & proceeded to take about 5 minutes to pass it out-- i gestured to Julie that i could have slammed down at least four of those shots in the minutes which he was diddling around.... fools.
Julie visited our table occasionally... i mean it was only 2 feet away.... : )
it was fun nevertheless--they can never take our fun away dammit.
{Happy Birthday Julie!}

{i really want to drop the name of the restaurant but is that taboo blog-o-sphere?}

{search, savor, share}

Last week I had an amazing opportunity to interview Ms. Holley Johnson from MyRecipes.com via the telephone! Although I was nervous seeing as how I have never done such a cool thing-- she was absolutely fabulous & I learned a lot about this awesome website!! enjoy--

Ms. Holley Johnson is a registered dietitian and has worked as a food editor at magazine's such as Cooking Light, Southern Living and about a year ago embarked on developing MyRecipes.com!! She had some amazing tips for everything food related--

MyRecipes.com features over 35,000 kitchen tested recipes and also a plethora of informative articles ranging from health to kitchen tips! All that knowledge at your fingertips for free!
Ms. Johnson even noted that along with the recipes and cooking tips they feature suggestions on entertaining and even on various drinks!

Naturally, seeing as how I, myself, am a poor college student and Pita Pit just doesn't cut it every night... I asked her what she suggests to get started in the kitchen, and her response was brilliant, "Find out what you like!" She even goes on to explain MyRecipes.com's "enhance search" capabilities! {woot!} Get this-- They also have a collection of "How-To" videos--quick explainations and demonstrations from those terms some of us may not be familiar with such as "the difference between whip and stir"{yeah, I didn't know. Don't judge. ; ) } --to more complicated terms that I can't even pronounce yet alone spell!! They even have a tab for "Quick & Easy" meals! Brilliant!!

I would have to say my favorite aspect of the site is the articles ranging from the best ways to store leftovers to how to create restaraunt favorites! And check out this genuis dinner timer "Dinner Countdown" outlining how much time you have to cook and generating specific recipes!!

Every recipe featured on the site has been "test kitchen approved" meaning it had to recieve a passing score by professional chefs before being published on the site. {They have your back, they keep their reader's in mind throughout their whole process!}
Bonus: they feature all the nutritional facts and tips on specific methods to use when preparing the meal yourself!

Perhaps you are like me and feel as if groceries are too expensive and the McDonald's dollar menu is more in your range listen up... I was surprised and elated when Ms. Johnson gave me some fabulous tips on stretching my dollar...
  • Buy whole food rather than pre-packaged. {ie: a pineapple vs. pineapple slices.}
  • milk is about $.25 a glass, which pails in comparisson to just buying pop; While also receiving a plethora of nutrients.
  • Remember to get a "bang for your buck."
  • Buy in bulk. Make your own bags of chips for your lunches by seperating and bagging on your own. You end up with approx. 25 packs vs. the mere 10 for the same price at the store.
So true, yet I have never actually thought about it!
That is just a little taste of what MyRecipes.com is all about... find out so much more such as
sexy bikini body diets, steaks under 250 calories, and overall health along with anything you could dream of! Just search keywords and your bound to find pearls of wisdom!
Trust me. I am not a cook, but I'm getting ready to get my apron on!

so here are their links for you to bookmark!

who knew?

  • It is hard (but probably not impossible) to start a “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane” sing-along. However, mentioning the ironic nature of John Denver penning the song doesn’t go over so well.
  • If you think your plane may be taxiing excessively before departure, it’s acceptable to verbally confirm with a fellow passenger that you didn’t accidentally wander onto a bus. But not too loudly.
  • It is fun but inappropriate to throw your arms up rollercoaster-style upon takeoff. In case you are seized by the urge, make sure you have enough head-room so that your wrists don’t conk against the overhead luggage bins.
  • And screaming is out. Trust me.
  • If you don’t want to talk to your fellow passenger, pick up a wonky-wonk magazine like Foreign Affairs or The New Yorker. They will pigeonhole you as a hopeless nerd and you can continue on your way.

absolutely {brilliant}. absolutely {hilarious}.

then you pretend to show your heart with confidence.
but really, you whence, as if waiting for the moment when
