Let the good times all roll out...

first & foremost, i would like to say happy birthday to some legitimately ballin' people.
1. happy birthday to my brother-in-law brandon.
he is by far one of the nicest people you will ever meet & great to chat with about sports. he puts up with all of our families antics since he came around our clan when i was in 4th grade! most importantly he can put up my sister katies crazy shenanigans, while quietly smiling, showing no strain of wanting to kill her. haha.

[brandon & katie, 2007]

2. happy birthday to my cousin/best pal Geoff.

[Geoff, Me, Jon, 199?]
its hard to believe he is now 20. it seems like yesterday we were sitting in our second grade classrooms, making faces at each other across the hall. we have known each other since birth, and have been there for each other through many things. having him in my grade, having lived only a cul-de-sac away for most of our adolescents, solidified our friendship beyond cousins. i cherish the memories we have had together & can not wait to see what else is ahead in this adventure we call our lives.

i got to go out to my hometown, IndepMO yesterday to spend it with geoff & jon(his brother, my other cousin) & it felt so good to be back. creating havoc together as if we were still 10. thats one thing (of 10832489042 things) i am incredibly thankful for in my life. my close family. i have so many cousins which i consider some of my best friends. many friends have come and gone in my life, many friendships lost, but i have always been a phone call, or even at one point in my life, a bike ride away, from some of the best friends i have ever had. and the best part is, they know more about me then some of my friends will ever know: we share the same roots, a sacred past. Not a day goes by, that i don't cherish a memory we shared.

"sometimes you feel like a nut..."

its two in the morning and im sitting here, watching real world, randomly clicking around on websites, craving a parfait, not being able to sleep, while i continue to sing "sometimes you feel like a nut... sometimes you don't" in my head.
yep, my friends, its official: it is summer.
after the first few weeks of being home from school, adjusting, & working the basketball camp at ku, i am finally into the old, traditional summer ritual.
sleep, eat, play, clean, shop, eat, tv, tv, shop tv, eat, tv, sleep... & sadly, this is probably the last "familiar summer" i will have. seeing as how i am 19, i am one year closer to the inevitable life of an adult. as much as i look forward to growing up, i will forever miss this lifestyle of lounging, grubbing, & flying free.

so here's to summer 2008:
may it continue to be fabulous, a finale to an era of memories i will never forget.

(& summer 2009, let's keep the growing-up to a medium pace...)

this is it. i feel it in my bones.

much needed quality time with my significant other, television. as much as i LOVE sportscenter, it feels great to sit down with my old friends. peter griffin, ellen degeneres, the kardashians, conan o'brien, nancy grace (one of my crazier pals) & of course, chelsea handler, my tv bestie. the first show i caught of hers after my 3 weeks of being tv deprived, i saw this ad:

basically people, we are destined. so heres what i need, ideas, advice, support, & money. (i mostly need money, not necessarily for this endeavor, rather the lack of it i have in general...jokes people, jokes.) so email me (aeallen@gmail.com) or leave a message on here.
this is it guys. so if you wanna be mentioned in my emmy, grammy, oscar, espy, or whatever award i manage to win someday, be sure to let me know your thoughts.

life lessons

yesterday was one of the best days of my summer thus far... i got to spend it with my fabulous nieces Carolyn & Julia. Carolyn is my sister Katie's feisty 3 year old who is an absolute blast to hang out with. It like spending the day with your best gal pal! Julia is Carolyn's 1 year old sister who is equally as fun. However, i was a little thrown off by the fact that she continually meowed (yes, meowed, as in what a kitten does...) the first 2 hours i was babysitting the two princesses. My sister and her husband offered me the opportunity to watch the girlies while they had some extra work to do. so the day began for me bright and early as i ventured out to Independence,MO around 6:50a.m.. Once i arrived all hydrated from the mocha i had slurped up on the way out to see my babies i was bombarded with hugs from carebear (my clever nickname i gave carolyn). i knew i had a day of fun ahead!
once julia ventured out of bed, we began our day of frolic! so of course, with much demand from the girlies, we did MAKE-UP. & carolyn had done a nice job of reminding me to bring all my "big girl" make-up!
as an aunt, it is my job to love all my little ones with all my might, and guide them through their journey of life. for my 3 little nieces, (my sister emily also has a little girl natalie, along with her two boys nathan and noah.)
i quote coco chanel:
"A girl should be two things: Classy & Fabulous."

after our make-up bonanza we got out of our pj's & headed to the park. we love make-up, but we love to play just as much, while looking gorgeous! we had a blast & explored everything the playground had to offer...

after a long morning of beauty, play, and grubbing at mcdonalds, we were ready for a nap. carolyn snuggled up in her big girl bed, while julia and i cuddled & watched The Bachelorette marathon. after the first two episodes julia was zonked

& i could no longer ride that Vh1 emotional roller coaster. so instead, i was able to catch up on some much needed reading. i suggest everyone go out & get their hands on this hilarious book.
Are You There Vodka? It's Me,Chelsea
absolutely brilliant. read it. do it. go!

once the girls woke up Katie was home so i handed over the little chicks, (or kittens ,as julia's meowing would have suggested) to their momma hen.
it was a Great day, lots of memories made, many moments cherished.

quote of the day...
[as carolyn & i were sitting on the couch watching the Bachelorette finale, Trista & Ryan's wedding...]
me: "Don't you think Ryan is handsome"
carolyn: "um...no. no. he is NOT."

why i love Sex & the City.

“But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.”
